Yes - A visa is required for travel to Japan

A valid passport and missionary visa are required for travel to Japan.

Passport Requirements:

Original, signed passport valid for 6 months beyond stay in Japan, with at least two blank passport pages available for available for Japanese visa stamp. Amendment pages in the back of the passport are not suitable for Japan visas.

Japan Visa Application Form:

One Japanese visa application form. After placing your order, fill out the application form included in your Visa Application Kit.

San Francisco: Two fully completed copies of the visa application form included in the kit. The application forms must include answers for all fields, display the applicant's full name as it appears in the passport, and be signed with the same exact signature in the passport.

Photo Requirements:

One recent 2 x 2 passport type photograph, in color, front view and with a plain/white background.


OR - you can upload a photo when you place your order, instead of providing physical passport photos.

Letter of Authorization:

Atlanta: Two Signed Letter of Authorization Forms

Other Forms:

Documentation certifying the religious position and career of the applicant.

Washington, DC: You must provide a completed copy of the Itinerary in Japan form found in your application kit

Letter Of Invitation:

A letter of invitation from the host organization or sponsor in Japan explaining the relationship to the applicant and the purpose of travel to Japan. In addition, the letter must indicate the length of stay, place of stay, and host’s name and contact information.

Business Letter

Letter from church or sponsoring organization in the US, on letterhead, introducing the applicant, indicating the applicant’s status/position held in the organization, clearly stating the purpose of visit to Japan. The letter must also indicate who will be financially responsible for the applicant and must provide detailed contact information in Japan.

Hotel Confirmation:

Miami:

Hotel confirmation and e-ticket must come directly from airline and hotel. Travel agency and third-party itineraries will not be accepted. If staying with friends or relatives, you must:

  • Provide a letter of invitation from your host
  • Include a copy of the host's passport information page
  • Include a copy of the front and back of the host's Japanese residence card (if non-Japanese citizen).
  • Include a copy of the host's military employment verification letter (if military personnel)

Letter of Employment :

Miami:

If you are currently employed, you must provide an employment letter. The letter must:

  • Be printed on original company letterhead
  • Be hand-signed by an authorized company authority (electronic or scanned signatures are not accepted)
  • Include your position
  • Include your duration of employment
  • Include your salary details

Note: if you are traveling for tourism, your letter must also:

  • State that you are strictly traveling strictly for tourism
  • Include your vacation dates from work

Other Requirements:

Houston: You must provide one completed Schedule of Stay form included in the visa application kit.

Special Instructions:

One clear photocopy of all the documents submitted.

Residents of Arizona: A personal appearance is not required.

This May Pertain to You:

Los Angeles: All visa applicants, who are traveling to multiple destinations, are required to secure all visas for the next countries of destination following their intended visit to Japan. Applicants must secure these visas before they can apply for a visa to Japan.
